
COMPETENCIES
For the program, there were seven competencies
to demonstrate skills and knowledge that
I learned during this program. The competency matrix shows what projects were used for each particular competency.


Competency 1:
Synthesize Knowledge
● Demonstrate ability to read and understand educational literature
● Demonstrate ability to describe fundamental theories of human learning
● Apply knowledge of human learning, diversity, and effective pedagogy to solution of problems in
discipline

Competency 2:
Create Knowledge
● Demonstrate ability to describe common research methods in discipline
● Demonstrate ability to read and evaluate research related to discipline
● Apply research findings to the solution of common problems in discipline

Competency 3:
Communicate Knowledge
● Communicate effectively in oral and written formats
● Effectively communicate content from discipline through the design and delivery of effective teaching/learning activities
● Demonstrate the ability to adapt instruction and support services to the needs of diverse
learners
● Demonstrate ability to appropriately assess learning outcomes

Competency 4:
Think Critically and Reflectively
● Develop a personal vision of inclusive educational practice
● Identify the relationship of discipline to the broader field of education.
● Critically evaluates theory and practice

Competency 5:
Engage in Professional Development
● Demonstrate the disposition for life-long learning and continuous professional development

Competency 6:
Participate Actively in the Profession
● Identify communities of practice within discipline and participate within these communities
according to the ethical standards of the discipline.

Competency 7:
Develop and Enact a Social Justice Orientation toward Teaching and Learning
● Develop a critical understanding of changing demographics and the diversity of students, schools, and communities
● Advocate for the values of diversity, inclusivity, and social justice
